Definition: Endocarditis is an infection of the heart’s inner lining, can involve the heart muscle and valves. This disease causes damage to your heart valves and can lead to fatal complications.

Examples: The most common cause of Endocarditis is a bacterial infection but it can also be caused by fungi. A bacterial infection that gets to the heart can be the result of injection drugy use from unsterile needles, central venous access lines, recnet dental surgery, other surgeries or minor procedures to the respiratory system, bones, muscles, urinary tract, or infected skin.
