Definition: Dobutamine stress echocardiogram is a diagnostic process used to test the heart’s function. It is performed to test how well the heart functions under stress. This is commonly used on those who are unable to exercise. Dobutamine is put directly into the veins and causes the heart to beat faster to mimic cardiovascular exercise.
