Coronary Artery Disease (atherosclerosis)


Definition: Coronary artery disease is a condition that is caused by the build-up of fatty substance (plaque) along the walls of the coronary arteries.

Examples: Build up of plaque can result in blockage of a coronary artery. If blood can not get to the muscles of the heart it will not receive oxygen and this may result in a heart attack
