Definition: Antiarrhythmic drugs are a classification of medications that assist with the treatment of an abnormal heart rhythm. In patients with A-Fib anticoagulants such as warfarin or Coumadin is added in order to reduce the risk of blood clots and stroke.

Example: Examples of antiarrhythmic drugs include: Amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), Bepridil Hydrochloride (Vascor), Disopyramide (Norpace), Dofetilide (Tikosyn), Dronedarone (Multaq), Flecainide (Tambocor), Ibutilide (Corvert), Lidocaine (Xylocaine), Procainamide (Procan, Procanbid), Propafenone (Rythmol), Propranolol (Inderal), Quinidine (many trade names), Sotalol (Betapace), Tocainide (Tonocarid)
